| Dear Fellow Engineering Professional, Two of our products got a very nice write up in the CADENCE Magazine article "Taking Stock of MCAD by Joe Greco. IRONCAD won best in Conceptual Modeling and Visualization. IRONCAD also had honorable mention in Machine Design, Drafting, PDM and Sheet-metal Design. VX won best in Manufacturing (CAM) and Mold Design and tied for Surfacing and Interoperability. VX had an honorable mention in Industrial Design and Sheet-metal Design.

| IRONCAD/INOVATE |
| Best in Conceptual Modeling: The program that brought drag and drop to a new level is IRONCAD. Its user interface allows quick placement of 3D shapes and their negative counterparts-matching cutouts. Almost all editing, such as resizing, is accomplished with drag handles. For accuracy, users can hold down shift when placing or resizing entities, which snaps objects to existing faces. |
| Best in Visualization: This category covers both rendering and animation, and I am going to bestow highest honors to IRONCAD. Users can achieve excellent rendering directly inside the program. In addition, a large library of textures, materials, and bump maps are just a click and drag away. It also comes with dozens of predefined animation paths, and users can also define their own.

| VX |
| Best in Manufacturing (CAM): This one was a no-brainer, as VX Corp. is the only vendor to offer its own CAM solution with its VX end-to-end solution, which still keeps the total CAD/CAM package under $10,000 (which is still less than most third-party CAM-only add-ons for VX's competitors). But VX didn't get the nod because it is the only player with these capabilities--its CAM software features many high-end tools such as robust high-speed machining, intelligent hole making and 2-5 axis milling capabilities with integrated verification. Best in Mold Design: This one was also easy as VX Corp. offers a Mold Edition add-on for only $2,000 that includes mold components such as cooling channels, face vents, swabs, electrode placement, and inserts. It also has tools for creating electrodes while considering design parameters such as burn compensation, clearance plane extension, and tangent side-action extension, as shown in Figure 2. It checks for interference between the part, the mold cavity, and the cooling elements.

| CADKEY NEWS – |
| CADKEY 21.5 is moving right along. They are waiting for the latest release of HOOPS and ACIS. They feel that these new versions are too close and are worth the wait. So it should be released in June or early July. The major focus on this release will be speed. Come on down and see why IRONCAD and VX won the awards. We will be demonstrating all of our products. Also we will have a limited amount of WS20 manuals available for free, so stop by and pick one up.
Meeting at our Edmonds Office May 15th at 6:30 pm See you there!! Joe Brouwer |
